Sonia sat, curled up in the snow. She was bundled in a fur coat, and underneath that so many layers of clothing. She found her mind wandering to places of warmth, and unconsciously, to someone's particular body heat.

"Hi Sonia,"

"You're here!"

He sat next to her. He wasn't bundled in any winter clothes, and the white snow didn't bother him in the slightest. He smiled at her and warmed her up.
How great it must be to be from a cold planet. Like her boyfriend Logan was.

It was two days until New Years. Sonia was spending the time in Karyos where Logan was from, and she was not used to the cold weather. They had spent Christmas with her family on Helio V. Even though it was cold, which she didn't like, she loved this time of year.

Sonia shivered. "Aw, come on Sonia, you can't be that cold!" Logan said.

"Well, I've been sitting in the snow for a while."

"Then you should get up and run around!" he said, standing up. He quickly grabbed a handful of snow and tossed it at her. "You're it! Snowball tag!"

Sonia giggled and hurried to stand up and toss her own clump of white snow. Most of the field was still white; only some of it was speckled with brownish foot prints.
The two ran around like little kids; chasing each other like cats and dogs. The dog got hit on the behind. The cat dodged. The dog dug a hole. The cat climbed a tree. The dog hit the cat with a snowball. The cat fell into the hole with a meow.

The two smiled, growing up once again. Only for the dog to tackle the cat. It was only after he planted a soft kiss on her cheek that she realized who she was again. And it was only after she looked at the brilliant sky that she realized how long they had been playing. She stared at the changing sky, mesmerized. It was turning all shades of colors; orange, pink, green, red, blue, yellow, and a slight bit of purple. The two sat next to each other, watching the sun set.

After around an hour the sky had turned a dark purple with shimmering gold stars. Sonia began to shiver.

"I'll be back," Logan grinned.

"But--" She had no time to protest before he was gone. With a sigh, she waited for him to return. With two steaming cups of hot chocolate. She smiled and was about to speak when he silenced her.

"You can't stare at the winter sky without hot chocolate."

Before long the hot chocolate was finished, the sky was black, the cold had settled in, and Sonia was napping on Logan's shoulder. With a smile, he brought her inside and concluded their first day at Karyos together.

"Goood morning." Sonia said. She was definitely a morning person, while he was a night owl. Another example of opposites attract, but they were perfect. "What's on the horizon today?"

"I was thinking we'd go skiing."

Sonia paled. "But I don't know how to!"

"That's where I come in."

After breakfast they went outside fully equipped to go skiing. Sonia was shivering slightly. Whether it was from the cold or the idea of skiing she did not know.

"Isn't this dangerous?" she asked, "Couldn't we get hurt?"

"You'll be fine," he reassured her, giving her a quick hug.

"Put your left foot first. There you go. Hold my hand...and push!" They went sliding down the mountain side. Sonia tumbled and rolled down halfway. Laughing, she stood up and tried again.

The day continued like that, until eventually Sonia got the hang of skiing. By that point she was cold and bruised and didn't want to ski for longer than ten minutes, even though now she wasn't slipping.

***
Sonia took a nice hot shower to wash off the feeling of cold, dirty snow. When she came out, Logan was watching TV and something was cooking in the oven. Sonia sat down on the couch to watch, but then Logan stood up.

"Come on outside." He led her to a secluded area. There was a little bench underneath a tree and surrounded by flowers. Sitting down, he smiled and placed a flower behind her ear.

The two sat there, thinking, talking, enjoying each other's compony. They discussed New Year's resolutions. They discussed school. They discussed their powers. Their families. So much but yet so little.

The sky continued to darken, slowly. Sonia didn't hear the footsteps behind her as Logan's mother came out. In her arms was a tray with three mugs of steaming hot chocolate topped with whip cream. She sat next to them as they sky began to brighten.

"New Years!"

They watched the reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, purples, pinks, silvers, and golds. They watched the different shapes and sizes. They were mesmerized. They watched for what felt like hours, and when it stopped they were begging for more. Or at least the two that were still there were.

"Happy New Years, Sonia. Thank you for spending it with me here."
"Happy New Years, Logan."

He leaned in and Sonia could smell the hot chocolate on his breath. Her heart was pounding. Her head was spinning. His smile was melting her senses. She leaned in as well. He pulled her closer. And then their lips met.

The first moment of the new year was one they wanted to cherish.
This is a gift story for Sochi-suzuki. It is about his character Sonia and her boyfriend Logan in the winter, with a skiing and hot chocolate scene. This was as thank you for all the holiday gifts he made me.

I hope you like it!

It isn't too late -- it is still winter!
